Here you will also find new funky designs and original items designed and made by some of the very talented creators who live on Koh Tao. Look around and you will easily find surf, street and beach wear from all the big brand names along with light, bright and colourful Thai cotton clothes that suit the climate and wont make your rucksack that much heavier. Casual and evening wear for all the grown up boys and girls is never a problem to find however clothes for young children and babies is not as readily available due to lack of demand so there are only a few shops that even offer the option.

Pharmacies on Koh Tao are normally staffed all day until late at night and pretty much sell everything both over and under the counter. Medications that are manufactured in Thailand are really cheap even when they are exactly the same as what you get back home and sometimes its nothing more then a licensed name change but the staff will often try and sell you meds you just don't need. So if it is just basics or specifics any of the pharmacies will do, if it is more then go to a clinic that is staffed with a nurse.

Fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and seafood all arrive on Koh Tao daily from the main land (weather permitting) and can be purchased at a number of different stalls and locations around the island. Aukotan, Viewpoint and Chaiwat are the largest of the supermarkets selling everything from cereals, canned foods & rice to light bulbs and fishing tackle. Most your kitchens requirements can be fulfilled locally and the big supermarkets also stock a lot of foreign and imported food as well as cheeses, wines and cold cuts and if you really cant get what you are looking for here it can be ordered from the mainland. There are now 5 7/11s on the island which are open 24 hours 7 days a week as well as a Freshmart so there are always places to buy food or drink and other bits n' bobs. You will never go hungry again!

Hand made jewellery, crafts, arts and other beautiful items can be found all over Koh Tao - some items are made by local artists and islanders while some stuff just comes from anywhere in Thailand. You need to go to specific shops where you can find really unique and original gifts, so treat yourself or take home something special for a friend. And of course all the normal bric-a-brac and holiday souvenirs are seen pretty much everywhere so don't be afraid to bargain and haggle for those things you just cant live without. it does save you some money and it really does make shopping more fun!

Books and magazines in many different languages are not the cheapest in Thailand so pass them on or sell them to one of the many second hand book shops that are scattered around the island. English newspapers are available but they are always a day late and a few focused stores do carry other foreign newspapers too. You can always put in a request and most of the time the staff will order it for you - just make sure to get a price quote first! You will get through many books whilst relaxing on the beach or swinging from your hammock, so get your reading list ready.

You can purchase everything from DVDs, CDs, TVs, electrical equipment, motor bikes, computers, toys - in fact pretty much anything else you could think of here on the Island, but prices for electrical, motorised or technological items will be slightly higher then the main land due to transport costs and the suppliers do take a small commission fee to make something for themselves as well. All house hold goods, building materials, furniture and other supplies, if not in the shop when you want it will be ordered and delivered for your convenience. You can also buy non-conventional items using the 7/11 or Macro catalogues found ina number of places, so remember, if you dont see what you are looking for in front of you then just ask! Anything is possible on Koh Tao.
